Solar power is harnessed by using Photovoltaic panels and the sizes range from the cheap solar garden lights to 100's of watt's each panel. Most of The R.E. solar panels are 12 volt one's so if your array is based on 24 or 48 volts the panels can be put in series to achieve the desired output voltage. Most R.E. shops will mount the solar panels dirctly on your roof and tell you thats the most efficient way but in reality the only way to mount solar panels are on a tracker to track the sun's path. If the salesman tells you different then just ask if he thinks the sun is always in the same position to suit the fixed panels.
